COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has criticized Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for allegedly clashing with President William Ruto.
Atwoli argued that the deputy president’s position should be an appointed role, not one of a running mate, to reduce conflict. He emphasized that Gachagua should not act as if he shares presidential powers.
Atwoli went on to suggest that Gachagua should be arrested for opposing the Kenya Kwanza government’s agenda. He remarked that during the KANU era, such defiance would have led to immediate arrest.
He also noted that a deputy president should remain subordinate and not challenge the president’s authority, questioning how a country could function with two leaders acting as president.
