Azimio mps take leadership role in Parliament and Senate

Azimio Members of Parliament on Tuesday took over the leadership role in both August house and the Senate by sitting on the majority seats in both houses. The Azimio MPs went on to urge their colleagues to move to the minority side. This move comes days after a court ruling that declared Kenya Kwanza was not the majority party/coalition in Parliament.

‎The opposition legislators caused commotion in the house demanding the National assembly Moses Wetang’ula to initiate the new changes to align with the courts rulling.

The speaker claimed the Azimio mps are misinterpreting the ruling saying though the Court ruling invalidated the determination of Kenya Kwanza as the majority party in the House, it did not directly declare any political entity as the majority.

‎Wetang’ula declared that it is the speaker of the National Assembly who has the powers to decide who will be the Majority Leader or Minority Leader.

‎“It is not the court to declare the majority side, it is the Speaker of this house and you better know that. It is the Speaker of the house to declare the majority,” Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

‎Suna East MP Junet Mohamed who sat on the majority leader seat in Parliament said he is not leaving that seat anytime soon.

‎“I’m privileged to speak from the seat of the Majority Leader. Even when I sat on it, I noticed it was very warm, I don’t foresee myself leaving this seat anytime soon,” Junet Mohamed said.
