Kenya Airports Authority has announced runaway closure at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Via a statement on their official X account, KAA says the closure is a result of an aircraft incident on the runway.
“An aircraft has caused runway closure at JKIA’” reads part of the statement.
The Authority has confirmed that no one was injured and there is no need for panic since the removal of the aircraft is underway.
“No injuries have been reported,” KAA said.
The authorities have apologized for the inconvenience and have promised to give subsequent updates over the same.
The incident comes days after Brussels resumed direct flights to Nairobi on the 4th of this month after a decade-long hiatus.
While welcoming the Brussels flight, KAA Chairman Caleb Kositany said there were vigorous plans to expand JKIA to accommodate more flights and visitors.
“Expanding JKIA is crucial for accommodating the increasing number of international flights and for bolstering our economy through improved connectivity,” said Kositany.
