Jobless and Broke Charity Ngilu unable to repay loan

Former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has defended herself why she is not in the position of paying a fine imposed on her for failing to attend senate summons regarding the Kitui County Textile Center (KICOTEC) financial statements and land ownership issues.

Ngilu appearing before The Senate County Public Investments and Special Funds Committee, said  being jobless in these economic times was unbearable.

The former governor was fined for not appearing before the Senate on Monday, October 7, 2024. The committee via its chairperson,Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi said it was crucial for her to appear in order to give clear context of the issue. 

The former lands minister claimed not receiving the sermons in a proper manner. She said the sermons were served online via WhatsApp from another unknown number.

The Senate County Public Investments and Special Funds Committee issued summons to Charity Ngilu and other top officials who were key people during the signing of financial statements of the KICOTEC in the financial years 2019/2020, 2020/2021, and 2021/2022.

The Auditor General report for the three financial years, showed significant management and financial challenges that threatened KICOTEC smooth operations and sustainability.

Charity Ngilu has been silent since the 2022 presidential election that was won by President William Ruto. Nothing much has been said about Ngilu until her recent sentiments about being broke.
