This week in the political arena, guns were pointed towards the minority leader at the National Assemble, Suna East Member of Parliament , Junet Mohamed. This follows a serious allegation from Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna who doubles as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) secretary-general, who accused the Junet of mismanaging Azimio coalition funds.
The senator who was speaking during the burial of Alice Wangari Gakuya, mother to Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, in Kigumo Constituency, Murang’a County pointed out that the legislator costed the Azimio presidential bid for mishandling the funds that were supposed to pay the coalition agents.
Sifuna acknowledged that former President Uhuru Kenyatta supported the coalition financially and the person entrusted with the cash was Junet. However, he accused the outspoken MP for not paying the agents adding that this move made them lose the hotly contested 2022 polls to President William Ruto.
“Wewe ulikuwa unakula pesa ya Uhuru badala ulipe agents ukaacha hawa kina Wamunyoro wakatupiga ten nill. Kama sio wewe Junet, tungekuwa kwa serikali.”
Sifuna went on to ask Junet why he is not singing a different tune after mishandling Uhuru Kenyatta money. He defended Uhuru and disclosed that he indeed helped them and the late Raila Odinga who was the presidential flag bearer of the coalition.
In a quick reply, the minority leader at the national assembly pointed fingers towards the former president’s brother, Muhoho Kenyatta. In his statement , Junet said the cash was in the management of Uhuru, Mohoho and their side who oversaw the recruitment and payment process.
“Former President Uhuru Kenyatta released the funds meant for election agents to his blood brother, Muhoho Kenyatta. Muhoho Kenyatta then appointed one Mr Patrick Mburu to take charge of the recruitment and payment of agents,” Junet said.
Junet went on to reveal the office which was tasked in the whole process was out of bounds from many including the presidential hopefully Raila Odinga.
All these back and forth allegations started when propaganda started being peddled online that the Orange Democratic Movement party was being sold and that Uhuru Kenyatta was the targeted buyer.
