Wiper leader and opposition member Kalonzo Musyoka has praised the Catholic Church’s bold move of rejecting and refunding donations from President William Ruto and his team.
Kalonzo said the move of Catholic Bishops returning the donations received at the Soweto Catholic Church was a true reflection of the fight against graft.
“The Kenya Kwanza regime must end the misuse of power for political gain.”
William Ruto contributed KSH. 2.6 million while Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja contributed KSH. 200,000 to the Soweto Catholic Church.
The donations followed days after Catholic Bishops had accused the William Ruto led government of cultivating the culture of lies.
Following pending and received donations at the Soweto Catholic church, The Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi issued a notice declining all political donations and funds.
While directing the refund of the donations via his statement,Archbishop Philip Anyolo said the Church must remain neutral and avoid compromising its integrity by accepting political contributions.
Political leaders are urged to focus on addressing pressing national issues, like corruption, human rights, freedom of speech, and more.
