Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Kalerwa Salasya has been released on a cash bail of KSH 200,000 with an alternative of KSH 400,000 surety bond following his hate speech charges.
Appearing before Milimani Magistrate Paul Mutai , Salasya denied all the charges leveled against him saying they are politically motivated.
Prosector Ms. Stellah Oyagi, told the court that on 10th May 2025, Salasya published inciteful remarks on his X account which could possibly stir ethnic hatred.
Salasya who is popularizing his 2027 presidential campaign via his lawyers complained in the dramatic manner in which he was arrested last Friday.
The vocal and youthful legistator was arrested along Isiolo-Nanyuki highway with masked men who were armed with firearms. During his arrest, his car tyres were shot at.
The Salasya hate speech case will be mentioned again on 4th June for further directions.
