Ruto Dragged To Court Over State House Events

President William Ruto is facing a legal challenge after lawyer Lempaa Suyianka filed a petition seeking court orders to bar the president from holding political events at State House.

Filing his petition at the Constitutional and Human Rights Division of the High Court in Nairobi, Suyianka argued that public resources have been used to advance ruling party activities at State House.

The lawyer wants the court to compel reimbursement to the republic for all costs incurred during political activities held at State House and State Lodges.

In his petition, Suyianka is seeking a permanent ban on all political parties from holding meetings, forums, or political activities at State House. He argues that State House and State Lodges are national institutions maintained by public funds and should be exclusively reserved for official state functions.

The petition lists President William Ruto in his personal capacity, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), the Attorney General, and the Comptroller of State House as respondents.

The president has been hosting various delegations at State House, most recently when he hosted over 12,000 aspirants from his party, UDA.
