Ruto, Raila save Sajakaja From Impeachment

President Dr.William Ruto and Orange Democratic Movement Party (ODM) leader Raila Odinga in a separate meeting met MCAs drawn from Nairobi County Government on Tuesday, 2nd September 2025 in an effort to convince them to squash their plan to impeach Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

The President met with Nairobi County UDA MCAs and urged them to overlook their differences at city hall and work for Nairobi County residents.

UPDATE: President Ruto met UDA MCAs at State House, where he cautions them against pursuing the ouster motion against Governor Sakaja.

Drawing from his own political experiences, the President reportedly tells the ward representatives that leadership requires resilience, not retaliation.

This comes moments after Nairobi ODM MCAs agreed to withdraw impeachment motion against Governor Johnson Sakaja after Raila Odinga’s intervention on Tuesday at County

Governor Sajaka alongside Raila Odinga met MCAs drawn from the Azimio coalition and agreed to withdraw plans to table impeachment motion.

Makadara Member of Parliament  and ODM Nairobi branch chair Gorge Aladwa confirmed that the MCAs had the required signatures that could enable them to impeach the governor. However, the meeting that was chaired by Raila which lasted more than 4 hours gave the two parties to air their grievances and reach an agreement.

”We have agreed that the pending impeachment motion against Governor Sakaja will be withdrawn,” said Aladwa.

Aladwa added that the governor will be given time to perform his duties while delivering what they agreed on.
