Written by Dex Antikua

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta for the first time in long has been seen in public. Kenyatta’s first appearance was on Saturday during the Episcopal ordination and installation of Rt. Rev. Peter Kimani as Bishop of Embu Diocese.

The former president had a chance to meet with his predecessor,President William Ruto . Among notable individuals who graced the occasion was former deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Saturday’s event happens when there is a huge debate within the country over recent sentiments from the Catholic Church. The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops pointed fingers towards the William Ruto government for having misplaced priorities, not honouring their promise and cultivating the culture of lies.

These allegations triggered a national debate with top politicians especially those from the ruling party.

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei blamed the bishops for looking for cheap publicity by castigating the president. Her sentiments were echoed by Aaron Cheruiyot who advised any religious leaders who have an issue with an individual leader, should seek redress through the relevant constitutional agencies.

Cheruiyot further said the bishops never launched any personal attack onte former presidents ( Uhuru Kenyatta and Mwai Kibaki ) who were not Catholics.

Like Cheruiyot, The National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah urged the  Catholic Bishops to expose corrupt legislators by informing investigative agencies or naming them publicly.
