Sacked cabinet secretaries to pocket Sh2.45 million each

All the cabinet secretaries in William Ruto led government wount go home empty handed after they were relieved their duties.

According to the Kenyan constitution, any cabinet secretary dismissed from their duty is supposed to get a gratuity amounting to 31% of their basic salary for every year they have worked. This amount is however, subjected to thirty percent tax.

The CSs were ushered within the first week when Ruto assumed office. The basic salary for the CS was KSH 554,400 in their first year between November 202

The basic pay for CSs in the first year in office which was started in November 2022 till June 2023 was Sh554,400 each.

The gratuity for those eight months is calculated at 31 per cent of the basic salary which is Sh1.37 million. After this amount being subjected to 30% tax,all sacked cabinet secretaries will receive KSH962,438 at the end of that financial year.

During the financial year of 2023/24, CSs salaries were reviewed by the salaries and remuneration commission (SRC). Cabinet Secretary salary went up to KSH 574,200 from KSH554,000.

With 31 percent gratuity the sacked cabinet secretaries will receive KSH 2.14 million. Upon being subjected to thirty percent tax (Sh640,000) the net pay becomes Sh1.49 million for each CS.

After being dismissed from work by president William Ruto last Thursday,each CS will pocket KSH 2.45 million.

Cumulatively the cabinet will cost taxpayers a whopping KSH 77.1 million.
