Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan Wins 2025 Election Amid Controversy

‎‎Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan has been declared the winner of the 2025 presidential election, garnering over 31 million votes, which represents nearly 98% of the total votes cast.

‎Tanzania’s Electoral Commission Chair, Jacobs Mwambegele, announced President Suluhu as the winner on November 1, awarding her the certificate after she secured 31,913,866 votes.

‎Suluhu, who ran under the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party, defeated her closest challenger, Chaumu, who garnered 213,414 votes.

‎The 2025 Tanzania elections have been mired in controversy, with some residents taking to the streets to protest what they termed a sham election lacking transparency. The unrest prompted security forces to impose a curfew in the capital, Dodoma.

‎Parts of Tanzania continue to experience unrest, and internet service across the country remains disrupted.

Elsewhere in Zanzibar, President Hussein Ali Mwinyi has secured a second term in office after being declared the winner by Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC).

The commison chair George Joseph Kazi said Mwinyi  of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi party, won 74.8 per cent of the vote in Wednesday’s elections.
