There has been an online debate after the will of the late Chief of Defense Forces General Francis Omondi Ogolla was revealed to the public. The strict directive about his will is something that many couldn’t fathom. In an african context ,writing a will is not a usual thing. This cuts across both members of the society who have it and those who are not blessed with wealth.
A will stipulates clearly about the deseaced wealth and how it should be divided. Just like how the dead are ought to be respected so is their will. In most cases,it is not thge case, not everyone concurs with the will.
General Ogolla wrote his will earlier in Julu 1st 2012. This is over a decade before meeting his death in a helicopter crash with his collegues on April 18th 2024.
Ogolla’s will had it that he would be burried within 72 hours upon his passing in a private ceremony that will be attended by pallbearers and onlu close family members. Adding that there will be no other ceremony conducted afterwards after a memorial service.
Ogolla who is survived with his two kids wrote in his will that the two,Lorna Achieng and Joel Rabuku would manage his estate. They would do so without expecting any benefits.
His easte that was estimated to be worth 150 million shillings was to be dividec among his immediate family members alone. His wife was to have hgalf of the estate and his two kids, share the remaining half equally.
To make sure this was effective,he listed what property would go to which kid. For instance his daughter Lorna Achieng Omondi will inherit his property near Pangani Shopping Centre while his son Joel Rabuku inherited a property in Siaya.
The decorated CDF was so strict about his property including his clothes which he directed to be disposed of by burning them. His relatives were wished the very best in their life ending the debate over his will.
President William Ruto was recently handed over the helicopter crash report that claimed the life of Ogolla and nine others. The investigation report revealed tht the crash was caused by engine malfunction.
The Bell UH-1H-II Huey helicopter KAFb1501 which the report claimed to be reliable, burst into flames upon impact shortly after takeoff at Kaben,Marakwet East.
With 12 souls on board, only one photographer survived.
