President William Ruto hosted a delegation drawn from the Gusii region at State House Nairobi on Thursday, September 11,2025 where he promised them a development package that is worth billions of cash.
The leaders who were led by Kisii Governor Simba Arati were promised that more homesteads from the two counties in the region, Kisii & Nyamira will be connected to the national grid to enable business to thrive.
“Over 32,000 homesteads across Kisii and Nyamira will also be connected to reliable electricity, unlocking commerce, enabling industries, and giving our people the tools to thrive.”
The head of state said Kisii County will benefit from 15,000 affordable units valued at KSH 30 billion that will be set in the county among other valuable projects.
“In Kisii, we are rolling out transformative investments: 15,000 affordable housing units worth Sh30 billion, Sh2.5 billion in modern tertiary student hostels, and four state-of-the-art markets valued at Sh2.4 billion.”
In Nyamira, the government has set aside over KSH 16 billion that will cater for construction of 7,000 affordable housing units.
Additionally,the county will benefit from construction of student hostels and three modern markets.
Ruto who has been hosting various groups at the State House, defended the move terming it as an opportunity of unity in the country and ensuring resources are evenly distributed.
Orange Democratic Movement Party leader Raila Odinga,Education Cabinet Secretary Ogamba Migosi, Solicitor General Shadrack Mose were some of the leaders present during the event.
