Acting Police Inspector General Masengeli Increases Security Measures Ahead of Nane Nane Protests,

In a press briefing held earlier today, Acting Police Inspector General Masengeli announced the deployment of additional officers nationwide in preparation for tomorrow’s Nane Nane protests. This move is aimed at enhancing security and ensuring the safety of all citizens during the anticipated demonstrations.

Masengeli reassured Kenyans of their constitutional right to peacefully demonstrate, picket, and assemble. “We fully support the rights of citizens to express their views and concerns through peaceful means,” he stated,”Our role is to facilitate this process while maintaining public order and safety.”

The Acting Inspector General emphasized that the decision to increase security measures was a proactive step in response to the planned protests. “The Nane Nane protests have prompted us to heighten security measures, but this will not be excessive. Our objective is to strike a balance between maintaining public safety and respecting the rights of demonstrators,” he explained.

Masengeli also underscored the police’s commitment to ensuring public safety and security while respecting citizens’ rights. He instructed officers to be vigilant and differentiate between peaceful protesters and those who might seek to exploit the situation. “We are particularly focused on ensuring that Gen Z demonstrators, who are exercising their democratic rights, are distinguished from individuals with criminal intent,” he said. “We will not tolerate any acts of looting or property destruction.”

As the country prepares for the Nane Nane protests, Masengeli’s statements have sought to reassure the public of the police force’s dedication to upholding the law and protecting citizens’ rights. He concluded by urging all participants to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly, reiterating the police’s readiness to facilitate a safe environment for lawful demonstrations.
