Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has been appointed deputy party leader of the Jubilee Party and endorsed as its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.
The decision was made during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the Jubilee Party headquarters in Nairobi, chaired virtually by party leader and former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“We, as NEC, have appointed Dr. Fred Okeng’o Matiang’i as our deputy party leader going forward,” announced Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni. “Alongside that, we have also resolved that Dr. Matiang’i represents us at the United Opposition, and on top of that, we also formally received his application to be the Jubilee presidential candidate.”
In a statement posted on X, Matiang’i expressed gratitude for the endorsement:
“I am deeply honoured by the Jubilee Party National Executive Committee’s unanimous acceptance of my formal application to be the Party’s presidential nominee. I am also profoundly grateful for the opportunity to serve as Deputy Party Leader and to represent the Party within the United Opposition.”
The United Opposition comprises former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua (DCP leader), Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K’s Eugene Wamalwa, and People’s Liberation Party Leader Martha Karua.
