Senator Onyoka To Unseat Governor Arati

Written by Vincent Ombati

One’s political buddies might be turned to political rivals come 2027 polls. Kisii Senator Richard Onyoka might be seeking to replace Kisii Governor Simba Arati if the status quo remains.

The Senator in a recent interview with Egesa Fm affirmed his intent to run for the top county seat if in the remaining term of Governor Arati, the county doesn’t show any kind of improvement.

“If in the next two years, the issues of Kisii County don’t change, I am running for the governor of Kisii,” said Onyoka.

However, the Senator maintains that he loves his oversight job and the motive to run as governor will be squashed once Kisii residents feel that the County leadership under Arati is delivering to them.

Onyoka clarified that he has no issues with Arati only that his oversight work mandates him to watch over resource utilization by the county governor. Adding that he is one of the best rated senators in the country and wants Arati also to become one of the best governors in Kenya.

“I campaigned for Simba Arati. I was very happy that he had won. I have no regrets about that.”

Onyoka who has been seen as a close ally of former Cabinet Secretary and Presidential hopefully Dr. Fred Matiang’i has been exchanging words with Arati raising the political temperature in the region.

During the interview,Onyoka revealed that Matiang’i was the one who funded their 2022 campaign including Kisii Women Representative Doris Donya.
