A hot debate about who is funding the allegedly Members of Parliament accompanying Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia ahead of the Africa Union chairman election on Saturday is making rounds on social media.
The issue had attracted the attention of the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula who has set the record straight whether public funds are used in trips or not.
“For clarity, these members will be travelling in their personal capacity as citizens and leaders and therefore, self-sponsored,” said Moses Wetang’ula.
Wetang’ula’s statement was echoing Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi who said that Kenya’s Delegation to Addis Ababa is Self Sponsored to Celebrate Raila Odinga.
Senator John Methu raised an issue why it was important to send MPs to go idle in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia while they could do so in Kenya.
“I want to hope and imagine that the 100 MPs that are going with Baba to Ethiopia are doing so with their own budget. We cannot be a spendthrift. Raila has his own secretariat.”
