The arrest comes days when there is a heated debate over the muguka ban in the coastal areas. Earlier this month Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir issued an executive order banning the sale, consumption, and transportation of the stimulant. The move was followed up with two coastal towns namely Kilifi and Taita Taveta banning the stimulant.
The decision from the three governors faced a backlash after President William Ruto rendered it null and void. Embu leaders had promised to challenge the decision in court claiming that Muguka is a cash crop in Kenya and banning it is illegal.
