President William Ruto is facing to become a one time President. This is something that some quarters in Kenya really want to happen apart from the people in his inner circle.
The Mount Kenya region is one of the biggest voting blocks in Kenya. As a fact, the region has produced three presidents, Jomo Kenyatta, Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta, the first, third and fourth president of Kenya respectively. The other two presidents (2nd president Daniel Moi and 5th President William Ruto) also relied also heavily on Mt. Kenya votes to clinch the presidency.
William Ruto teamed up with Rigathi Gachagua from Nyeri County located within the Mt. Kenya region in order to triumph against his presidential rival former Prime Minister and opposition leader Raila Odinga in the 2022 general elections.
Currently in Kenya, two main groups want President William Ruto to make history by becoming a one term president. They are opposition leaders and the youths who are mainly Gen Z.
Kenyan’s Gen Z doesn’t want anything to do with William Ruto. Many believe that the man from Sugoi doesn’t deserve to finish his term actually.
The Gen Z uprising was evident the controversial 2024 financial bill. The energetic generation took to the streets to express their dissatisfaction with the bill. The height of their demonstration was on June 25th 2024 when they breached the Parliament premise.
On the other hand, opposition members are aligning their troops in order to get a better chance against William Ruto.

Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka is always showing up in events or issues that align with the youths. Kalonzo wants to have more youths in his camp. His wiper party announced to sponsor youths who are willing to vie for elective seats. G
Founding party KANU also rebranded to woo the youthful votes.
Still in the opposition politics in Kenya, we’ve witnessed several realignments. The Jubilee party led by its secretary general Jeremiah Kioni has thrown their support behind former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
As opposition members are busy holding talks in order to make Ruto a term president, several names are popping up. Inject party leader Morara Kebaso, DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa and Busia Senator Okiya Omtata have expressed their intentions to challenge William Ruto in 2027 polls.
